Charac Limited (“Charac”, “we”, or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. Our websites — including charac.co.uk and prodeliverymanager.com — use cookies and similar small bits of software to improve the performance and enhance the user experience of our services. We use cookies and similar technologies across our websites, our mobile application (the “Charac App”), our platforms — including the Charac platform and Pro Delivery Manager (“PDM”) — and associated online content. We use cookies to enable us to understand how you interact with our services, to improve our service, and also to report on trends. Our Cookie Notice explains:
  • what types of cookies and similar technologies are placed on your device when you visit our websites, or use the web browser, Charac App or our platforms, including Pro Delivery Manager (PDM) (together our “Services”); and
  • how we use cookies and similar technologies.
Our Privacy Policy at Privacy Policy provides you with further details about how we use your personal information, although please be aware that not all information which is captured through our use of cookies and similar technologies will identify you.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are sent to or accessed from your web browser or your device’s memory. A cookie typically contains the name of the domain (internet location) from which the cookie originated, the “lifetime” of the cookie (i.e., when it expires) and a randomly generated unique number or other identifier. A cookie also may contain information about your device, such as user settings, browsing history and activities conducted while using our Services. There are many functions of cookies. Cookies enable you to move around our website and use its features. Without these cookies, you may experience problems using our website. Cookies can also provide us with information about how you use our website. Cookies can be used to show you adverts that are relevant to you, based on your browsing habits, and used to personalise your user experience. For example, to personalise your experience cookies can help us to remember your account details or username and preferences, analyse how well our websites are performing or even allow us to recommend content we believe will be most relevant to you. Certain cookies can collect personal information, other cookies used do not collect information that identifies you and will instead collect more general information such as how users arrive at and use our websites or a user’s general location. Cookies may be either “persistent” or “session” cookies. A persistent cookie consists of a text file sent by a web server to a web browser, which will be stored by the browser and will remain valid until its set expiry date (unless deleted by you before the expiry date). A session cookie will expire at the end of the user session, when the web browser is closed.

Do we use other tracking technologies?

Other technologies (which Charac also calls cookies), such as web beacons (also called pixel tags or clear gifs), tracking URLs or software development kits (“SDKs”) may also be used. Web beacons are tiny graphics files that contain a unique identifier that enable us to recognise when someone has visited our service or opened an email that Charac has sent them. Tracking URLs are custom generated links that help us understand where the traffic to our web pages comes from. SDKs are small pieces of code included in apps, which function like cookies and web beacons.

Types of cookies we use

Essential or strictly necessary cookies. Some cookies are essential for the operation of our websites. For example, some cookies enable you to log into secure areas of our website or make use of our Services. These types of cookies also allow us to identify account holders and ensure they can access the relevant pages. If an account holder opts to disable these cookies, they will not be able to access all of the content. Analytical or performance cookies. They allow us to recognise and count the number of visitors and to see how visitors move around our website when they are using it. This helps us to improve the way our websites work, for example, by ensuring that users are finding what they are looking for easily. Functionality cookies. We use functionality cookies to allow us to remember your preferences for your return visits to our websites. Social Media Cookies. These cookies allow you to share what you have been doing on the websites on social media, such as Facebook and Twitter. These cookies are not within our control. Please refer to the respective privacy policies for how their cookies work. Targeting cookies. These cookies record your visit to our websites, the pages you have visited and the links you have followed. We will use this information to make our websites and the advertising displayed on it more relevant to your interests. We may also share this information with third parties for this purpose anonymously. We do not tell third parties who you are.

Who can create cookies?

First-party cookies

First-party cookies are placed on your device directly by us. For example, we use first-party cookies to enable your log in to our Services, to record your cookie preferences, and to adapt our Services to your device settings.

Third-party cookies

Third-party cookies are likely to be analytical/performance cookies or targeting cookies. We also sometimes use third-party cookies which are placed on your device by our partners and service providers. For example, we use Ryft Pay and Stripe to facilitate payments within our Services, and Google for analytical cookies to learn more about your use of our Services.

How long does a cookie stay on my device?

Session cookies. Session cookies only last until you close your browser. We use session cookies for a variety of reasons, including to adapt our Services to your device settings, and to enable your log in to our Services. Persistent cookies. Persistent cookies have a longer lifespan and are not automatically deleted when you close your browser. These types of cookies are primarily to record your cookie preferences, to facilitate payments, and for analytical purposes.

Cookies on Pro Delivery Manager (PDM)

Pro Delivery Manager (PDM) runs on separate infrastructure to our charac.co.uk website, so it sets its own cookies. PDM does not use the WordPress, Jetpack or uncode cookies listed in the table above; those are specific to charac.co.uk. The cookies set when you use PDM fall into the same categories described above:
  • Essential (session and login) — a session cookie that lets you sign in to and use the PDM web application. This lasts for the duration of your session.
  • Security and content delivery — Cloudflare sets cookies (such as __cf_bm and cf_clearance) used for security, bot management and reliable delivery of the PDM service.
  • Payments — where you make a payment through PDM, our payment provider may set cookies necessary to process the transaction securely.
  • Analytics — where enabled, analytics cookies help us understand how the PDM service is used so that we can improve it.

How can you control cookies?

When you first visit either of our websites (charac.co.uk and prodeliverymanager.com), you will see a cookie banner that allows you to choose which types of cookies you agree to us using. Each site shows its own banner and records your choices for that site. Your preferences are remembered using a cookie that we place on your device. We do not need your consent to use essential or strictly necessary cookies and our cookie banner does not provide an option to prevent these being used. You may be able to disable these cookies in your browser settings but, if you do, parts of our websites may not work properly. Other categories of cookies will only be used where you have indicated your consent by using the checkboxes on our cookie banner. If you want to delete any cookies that are already on your computer, please refer to the help and support area on your internet browser for instructions on how to locate the file or directory that stores cookies.
